Today I am so, so thankful for my 8 year old daughter Lauren. Even though she growled at me this morning in the car and (I could tell) seriously contemplated sticking out her tounge at me, she is a joy and light in my life. Lauren has insight like no one I have ever seen. After telling her recently that I had wanted to be Cindy Lauper when I was a kid (and spelled it Sindy Lopper), I had occasion to show her who Cindy Lauper is (yes, we were watching the Goonies). When she came on the screen, I was singing along and told Lauren...'see, this is who I wanted to be when I grew up.' Lauren, totally serious and deadpan, looks at me and says "Why don't you still want to be her?"
Indeed. I guess some days I do still want to be Cindy Lauper. I mean, who wouldn't?
